You might know that you want to help people. You may even picture yourself working in health care one day. But choosing an actual career and figuring out how to get there can feel like a much bigger question.
Should you become a nurse? A counselor? A dental hygienist? What does a community health worker do? And how many years of school would each career require?
The School-Based Health Alliance created the new “School Health Careers” website to make those questions a little easier to answer.
The free website introduces more than 28 careers in school-based health centers, including careers in medical care, mental health, dental care, vision, nutrition, health education, care coordination, and more. It provides a quick career quiz to help users explore job options based on their interests, information about each career’s responsibilities, education requirements, salary range, job growth, and cost of education.
It isn’t only for students. Families, educators, school counselors, health professionals, and youth-serving organizations can also use it to start conversations about the many paths available in health care.
You do not need to have your entire future planned today. Sometimes, all you need is a place to begin.
