Richard C. Antonelli, M.D., M.S.

Medical Director of Integrated Care, Boston Children’s Hospital

Antonelli has worked extensively at the national and state levels evaluating care delivery and informing improvement efforts. He develops and implements methodologies, tools, procedures, and measures to facilitate the integration of care as well as to evaluate outcomes of care coordination. Antonelli runs an Integrated Care Clinic at Boston Children’s Hospital, offering care coordination management for people with complex needs—especially those transitioning from child to adult care delivery.

Antonelli has served as the Medical Director of the National Center for Care Coordination Technical Assistance since 2015 and recently served as the Medical Director of the National Care Coordination Academy in collaboration with Boston University. He was the Principal Investigator of the team that created the family-driven technology solution Caremap. I have contributed to the National Academy of State Health Policy (NASHP) “National Standards for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs” and the “National Care Coordination Standards for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs.”

Antonelli has served on the Expert Steering Committee for an Examination of the Six Core Outcomes for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN) in the National Survey of Children’s Health focused on improving how we evaluate care for CYSHCN across the U.S. He served two terms as the Child Health Subject Matter Expert on the Measures Application Partnership Coordinating Committee at the National Quality Forum and has been a longstanding member of the forum’s Patient Experience and Function Committee, formerly the Care Coordination Standing Committee. He also served as the Co-Chair of the forum’s MAP Medicaid Child Workgroup. I am currently a member of the CMS Adult and Child Medicaid Core Set Review Workgroup and the CMS Scorecard Review Workgroup.

Antonelli is Co-Principal Investigator, in partnership with AcademyHealth, of the Enhancing Systems of Care for Children with Medical Complexity Coordinating Center, bringing content and landscape expertise in the strategic oversight of technical assistance and training, partnerships and collaboration, and evaluation.
