Description: Communicating effectively with youth requires a specialized approach. To impact morbidity and mortality, adolescent preventive services must include a focus on reducing or eliminating risk factors, taking into account the influence of social determinants of health (SDOH) on those risks. A professional skilled in Motivational Interviewing (MI) creates an environment that allows youth to disclose information about their risk behaviors, improve their motivation to change, and to seek advice on how to do so.

This two-part virtual training on  will teach professionals how to apply MI strategies in real-world practice to increase their effectiveness in identifying risk factors and coaching youth towards positive change and will include a focus on understanding the influence of SDOH on youth risk-taking behaviors

This training is focused on youth and their unique needs when it comes to coaching on risk factors and behavior change.
