Shawn Ginwright: 2016 Convention Keynote SpeakerThe School-Based Health Alliance is proud to present Dr. Shawn Ginwright as our keynote speaker in the opening plenary session for the 2016 National Convention on School-Based Health Care.

Dr. Ginwright is a leading national expert on youth development, youth activism, and African-American youth. He currently serves as Associate Professor of Education in the Africana Studies Department and Senior Research Associate for the Cesar Chavez Institute for Public Policy at San Francisco State University.

His expertise centers on the ways in which youth in urban communities navigate through the constraint of poverty and struggle to create equality and justice in their schools and communities. Some of his publications and presentations include “Beyond Resistance! Youth Resistance and Community Change: New Democratic Possibilities for Practice and Policy for America’s Youth” and “Radically Healing Schools and Communities: The Power of Policy from the Heart.”

As our opening plenary speaker, Dr. Ginwright will bring a strong social justice and equity lens and provide insight into how the school-based health care field can help young people heal from the effects of trauma.

We’re thrilled that Dr. Ginwright will join us in Arlington, Virginia, for our upcoming convention, and we hope that you’ll do the same! Be sure to mark June 26-29, 2016, on your calendar, and check our convention website frequently for updates.
