Richfield Springs Opens School-Based Health Center

The Bassett Healthcare Network celebrated the opening of its 20th school-based health center (SBHC) in upstate New York at Richfield Springs Central School on October 15, 2015. Bassett Healthcare Network President and CEO Vance M. Brown, MD joined parents, state lawmakers, school officials, and health care providers to celebrate the new addition to the community.

“This is the best model I can think of for taking care of kids. This mission of being here in a community with boots on the ground… that for me is what this is all about.”
-Vance Brown, MD, President and CEO, Bassett Healthcare Network

The SBHC at Richfield Springs will provide students with primary care and oral health services. In addition, a licensed clinical social worker will be present to provide access to mental health care.

“That’s one of the advantages of school-based health as compared to most private health care practices, or group practices. We have mental health care right onsite, and we have a mental therapist who can see kids on a regular basis.”
-Dr. Chris Kjolhede, Pediatrician and Co-Director of the Bassett School-Based Health Program
