A huge thank you to everyone who submitted an entry to our Back-to-School Story Contest! We received stories, videos, and photos from all over the country. It is inspiring to see the huge impact school-based health care field is having across the nation.

The winner of our raffle a $100 Amazon gift card—and provider of our next story—is Heritage Health from Idaho. Read about their recent successes in Northern Idaho below:

HeritageHealthHeritage Health’s school-based health center (SBHC) in Northern Idaho is making a difference in our region! A full-time provider (FNP) was recently hired as director for the purpose of better meeting the health care needs of regional families and K-12 students. In just a short period of time, SBHC’s community outreach has been extensive.

For example, in July the SBHC was onsite in Spirit Lake, Idaho, to support the medical needs of families evacuated by the Bayview-area wildfire. During this time, an SBHC provider resuscitated a patient who experienced cardiac failure. Additionally, the SBHC conducted more than 250 sports physicals for K-12 students—at no cost to the students—onboard the SBHC mobile clinic from June through August at Post Falls and Lakeland School district sites. In late August, the SBHC coordinated with regional middle and high schools to provide immunizations at no cost to students during fall registration. SBHC providers completed 225 immunizations over a three-day period.

These initiatives demonstrate the immediate and positive difference the SBHC is making in meeting the health care needs of families, promoting wellness, and preventative care. New programs will be piloted this fall incorporating partnerships with community agencies, families, and the students to encourage healthy lifestyles in youth.
