National Immunization Awareness Month – SBHC Resources

National Immunization Awareness Month

August is National Immunization Awareness Month – a time to speak to parents about the importance of getting their kids and teens back-to-school immunizations. This year’s key messages are: 1) vaccines are an important step in protecting against serious diseases, 2) vaccines are recommended throughout our lives, and 3) a strong provider recommendation is one of the best ways to ensure patients get the vaccinations they need when they need them.

A majority of school-based health centers (SBHCs) provide these immunizations for students. Even so, it can be difficult to find effective ways to communicate with parents about vaccinations. This 2015 communications toolkit contains key messages, vaccine information, social media messages, links to web resources from CDC and other organizations, among other resources. The goal of this toolkit is to equip SBHC staff with the knowledge to speak confidently about the value of immunizations for the school-age population.
