Awareness Month for Students, Teachers, Family, and SBHC Staff

2018 February School-Based Health Care Awareness Month

We’re SO glad you’re interested in supporting our 2018 Awareness Month. There are lots of ways to participate! We’ve listed some ideas below.

Celebrating Awareness Month in YOUR Community

  • Invite your Members of Congress to attend our two Congressional briefings on February 28 here in Washington, DC! Head to www.sbh4all.org/briefing for more information and to register.
  • Talk about school-based health centers (SBHCs) to someone who doesn’t know what they are.
  • Use this month to thank your SBHC staff. Honor them with a “Certificate of Appreciation.” Ask students to sign a giant thank you card for staff and volunteers.
  • Bake some cupcakes or cookies for your SBHC staff.
  • Host a poster contest for marketing the SBHC and give away prizes.
  • Talk about your SBHC on social media using our hashtag, #SBHCmonth17.
  • If your SBHC doesn’t have a Twitter or Facebook account, create one!
  • Host an “open house” in your SBHC for other students, teachers, and parents.
  • February is also National Children’s Dental Health Month. Use this opportunity to bring attention to any oral health services your SBHC provides!

Awareness Month Twitter Chat

Starting at 2:00pm Eastern on Tuesday, February 20, the Alliance will host a Twitter chat titled “Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies: SBHCs and Child/Adolescent Health” and we’d LOVE your participation. If you plan to participate, please email Anna Burns (aburns@sbh4all.org) and she’ll be happy to send you the chat questions and sample responses in advance. Social Media

Grassroots support for any movement thrives on social media. The same goes for our school-based health care awareness month. Using platforms like Facebook and Twitter will allow us to reach, engage, and mobilize current and potential stakeholders, supporters, and advocates. We’ll want to provide up-to-date, tailored, and interactive content about awareness month through these channels to foster audience-to-audience dialogue.

The hashtag for the 2018 Awareness Month is #SBHCmonth18. Use the hashtag in all of your social media posts. We’ll be monitoring the hashtag and who is using it, so we can retweet or re-post your content to a broader audience.
