Good News for Young People Everywhere: Those Uncomfortable Conversations Just Got a Lot More Comfortable

Screen Shot 2016-04-25 at 10.10.47 PMLet’s face it. It’s no secret that young people don’t particularly enjoy talking to adults about their sexual health. Thanks to Planned Parenthood, those “awkward” conversations just got a lot easier.

Planned Parenthood’s Chat/Text program lets young people talk anonymously with a trusted professional about emergency contraception, STD prevention and testing, pregnancy testing, birth control, and more. Chat/Text allows young people to connect the way they want to, online, with Planned Parenthood health educators. These health educators provide medically accurate responses that encourage positive health behaviors.

Establishing trust with young people is paramount, so Planned Parenthood uses active learning strategies to turn these chats into concrete action plans. Instead of passively sharing facts, they engage and empower young people to take charge of their sexual and reproductive health.

School-based health centers (SBHCs) that serve young people can make a difference by sharing this free resource with patients as part of their sexual and reproductive health services. For more information on the program, please visit Planned Parenthood’s website, plannedparenthood.org/chat. For free promotional materials, contact nicole.levitz@ppfa.org.
